Hi Team,
I’ll try to make this shorter than last time. The most important thing to look for is the names of the women who have responded that they plan to do a particular event. You’ll find them in the Event Training News section of this bulletin.

CINDERELLA CENTURY 100K BIKE RIDE – April 2 (Nancy, Linda, Mary Jo, Shana, Maureen, Tracey)
Either these ladies signed up for the first possible event, or it’s a popular thing to do. Whichever, I’m glad to have so much company! I’ve requested current fitness and availability information from the group and will be setting up a schedule of group rides soon.
Both Linda and Mary Jo have done this ride before, and both loved it!
WILDFLOWER INTERNATIONAL TRIATHLON – May 1
THE MARIN HUMAN RACE – May 7
NAPA VALLEY SPRINT TRIATHLON – MAY 14 (Molly, Maureen, Shana)
Maureen and Shana are planning to “tri” this one. They can train for this and the Danskin at the same time.
If you are serious about doing this race, please register soon. The Envirosports website says that there are only 75 spots left. Go here to register: http://www.envirosports.com/events/displayevent.php?eventid=1283
MARIN BREAST CANCER WATCH DIPSEA HIKE – May ?? (Maureen)
When I said we loved hiking up the Dipsea steps, I was thinking of Maureen!
DANSKIN WOMEN’S SPRINT TRIATHLON L.A. – June 5 (Nancy, Shana, Maureen)
I hope that more of you will want to join Shana, Maureen and me for this special event.
TIBURON TRIATHLON –July 31 (Nancy, Shana, Mary Jo)
Mary Jo, you can take part in the Danskin triathlon training to pick up some triathlon skills. You’ll then have extra time to train for your July race.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE SPRINT TRIATHLON – August 28 (Nancy, Maureen)
Maureen promised at the end of this race in 2004 that she would train on hills so she could return and finish the full race in 2005. Go for it!
TIBURON MILE OPEN WATER SWIM –September 25
SUSAN G. KOMEN RACE FOR THE CURE – September ??
BREAST CANCER FUND PEAK HIKE – September ??
SEE JANE TRI SPRINT TRIATHLON –October 8 (Nancy, Shana, Maureen)
This is an all-women’s triathlon held on the same course as the May Napa Valley Triathlon. It was held for the first time in 2004, when Molly and Penny raced and I swam (being injured at the time). This is a great race for first-timers and novice triathletes – very low key and supportive with a high proportion of first-timers, many of whom are affiliated with the See Jane Tri training group.
TREASURE ISLAND SPRINT TRIATHLON –November 6

SNOWSHOW TRIP – January 16 ( Shana & friends)
One by one, everyone on the Marin team but Shana (and her friends) dropped out of this trip. I’ll have a report on how it went in next week’s bulletin.
FREE BICYCLE STREET SKILLS CLASS – January 27, 6:30 - 8:30 PM at Marin General Hospital
Here’s a great class for anyone who has ever felt uncomfortable riding a bicycle on the road. Dwayne and I are both experienced cyclists, but we attended the 4-hour version of the class and learned some new things.
Marin General Hospital's Trauma Program and the Marin County Bicycle Coalition are continuing to improve safety in Marin County by providing free bicycle safety classes. The next class is coming up on Thursday, January 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, in the Marin General Hospital Conference Center. Taught by nationally recognized bicycle safety educator John Ciccarelli, "Basic Street Skills" is a dynamic 2-hour virtual tour of bicycle commuting techniques. A bicycle is not necessary for the class, unless you plan to ride one there!
Cyclists aged 16 and up are invited to sign-up now for a free "Basic Street Skills" class. In just two hours, this power-point-based class will
teach participants to safely and confidently use a bicycle for transportation. Topics covered include how to avoid crashes and citations,
improve visibility, ride between and through intersections, the legal rights and obligations of cyclists, and more.
Advance class registration is necessary. People can register for a class by providing their name, address, email, phone and class date in one of the following ways: on-line at www.marinbike.org, faxing to 415-456-9344, calling the Marin County Bicycle Coalition at 415-456-3469 ext. 3#, or emailing streetskills@marinbike.org. A confirmation will be sent to all who are registered for the classes.

MEMBER NEWS
This is hardly athletic, but I did run into Penny Noble at a lamp store last weekend. I know she’s also been down at the Bay Club.
A SOCIAL GATHERING
You should have received and E-vite from Shana and me about our New Year’s Party at Shana’s house on Sunday, January 30 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. So far Maureen has RSVP’ed and promised to bring something yummy. It is a potluck affair, but don’t feel like you need to do anything elaborate or huge. Keep it simple.
Patrice and Susan can’t make it. I know that Susan leaves town for the rest of the month on Monday.
It would help our planning if you would let us know if you’re coming or not. When you view the E-vite, in the bottom right there is a section called Reply Here where you can indicate if you’re planning to attend. If the high-tech nature of the invitation is too much for you, please feel free to email me back or call me at (415) 924-6887 with your response.
You can also invite additional guests, so if you know any other women survivors who might be interested in Team Survivor Marin, feel free to invite them.

THE LAST WORD
I have had one heck of a busy week, mostly with Marin County Bicycle Coalition work. It seems that when meetings or situations come up they clump together all at once. I must confess that I skipped some workouts and all but one yoga class this week. In a way, I’m proud of that. I tend to be a hyper-disciplined athlete, and if I’ve planned a training session I rarely skip it. But one night this week it was either go to yoga class or eat dinner. I chose to eat, wisely I think. Flexibility and moderation are virtues, too.
If I can help you with any part of your physical fitness program, please feel free to contact me.
Take care,
Nancy Weninger
